Following some simple rules for pies and donuts will help to prevent chart disasters:

• The “100 per cent rule” – pie charts should account for a complete set of data.
  • Use Part to whole relationship - to show component elements is a single entity
• Never use 3-d or exploded segments. This is more than aesthetic disdain
• Label segments directly where possible – and don’t use too many segments.
