A plethora of classification approaches are available. Understanding the impact of different methods is an important development in map literacy. To kick-off, let’s look at two of the most well-known and well-used methods.

  • Equal interval – ensures evenly spaced gaps between the class breaks.
  • Equal count (β€œquantile”) method - ensures the same number of map areas are allocated to each class.
